Five Steps to a Successful Website Launch

Are you getting ready to launch your new website? It can be a stressful time – making sure you have crossed your t’s and dotted your i’s – and haven’t missed anything crucial.

I have put together this five step checklist based on my years of experience in website design and marketing. Although every website is different, the following things apply to most launches.

1. Review everything before your website launch

A successful website launch requires careful planning and attention to detail. Before launching your site, be sure to review everything from the design to the content to the user experience.

Make sure you have a plan in place for how you will promote your site and attract visitors.

Pay attention to the little things, such as ensuring that all your links are working and that your pages load quickly. By taking the time to prepare for your launch, you can set your site up for success.

2. Ensure your website is responsive

Responsive website design is essential in today’s mobile-first world, where more and more people are accessing the internet on their smartphones and tablets.

Making sure that your site looks good on all screen sizes should be a number one priority. Your content should be easy to read and navigate, no matter what device your visitors are using.

By ensuring that your site is responsive, you can provide a better experience for your visitors and make it more likely that they will return to your site in the future.

3. Check for functionality

Make sure everything is functioning properly across the whole website. This includes things like your shopping cart and check out process, email newsletter sign ups and contact forms. Don’t forget comments and social sharing, social links and text links and buttons. Overlooking important functionality will make for a bad first impression, or even worse – people won’t be able to contact you or complete purchases.

4. Add website analytics

One of the biggest mistakes I see when it comes to DIY websites is not including the all important google ecosystem tools. Heck, I have seen plenty of websites built by a developer who hasn’t added google analytics and search console. Once you launch, you need to be able to track your website metrics in order to know what is working and what isn’t. Not having these free tools connected is a little bit like flying blind.

5. Don’t forget to optimise for SEO

SEO best practices are not an optional extra – they are an essential part of website design and development. By taking the time to ensure your website is optimised for search engines, you can significantly improve your chances of ranking high in search results and driving traffic to your site.

Make sure you are using unique page titles, have entered meta data for pages and alt tags for images. Better yet – be proactive and put in place a content and SEO strategy to drive traffic to your website when live. You’ll be glad you did.
